How to Replace Jira with Delivery Hub in One Afternoon

Glen Bradford6 min read

You're paying $8–15 per user per month for Jira. Your team already lives in Salesforce. Every standup starts with someone toggling between two tabs. What if you could kill the tab, kill the bill, and be fully migrated before end of day?

Why Teams Switch

Three reasons come up in every conversation we have with Salesforce teams stuck on Jira:

  • Cost. Jira charges $8.15/user/month on Standard and $16/user/month on Premium. Delivery Hub is free — forever. For a 50-person team, that's $4,900–$9,600 per year back in your pocket.
  • Context switching. Your cases, accounts, opportunities, and contacts are in Salesforce. Your work items shouldn't live in a completely separate tool with its own login, its own permissions model, and its own search.
  • No native integration. Jira's Salesforce connector is a third-party plugin that syncs fields on a delay. Delivery Hub reads from the same database your CRM uses. No sync. No lag. No broken links.

Step 1: Install Delivery Hub (3 Minutes)

Delivery Hub ships as a free Salesforce managed package. Head to the Getting Started guide, click the install link, authorize, and wait. The package includes Work Items, Dependencies, Network Entities, Time Entries, Invoices, Portal Access records, and every Lightning component — all in one install.

No AppExchange listing fees. No license keys. No trial that expires in 14 days.

Step 2: Map Your Workflow

Jira has statuses (To Do, In Progress, Done). Delivery Hub has Stages, which are fully customizable picklist values on the Work Item object. Common mappings:

Jira StatusDelivery Hub Stage
BacklogBacklog
To DoPlanned
In ProgressIn Progress
In ReviewIn Review
DoneComplete
Won't DoCancelled

If your Jira board has custom columns (QA, Staging, UAT), add matching picklist values to the Work Item Stage field. Takes two minutes in Setup.

Step 3: Import Your Backlog

You have two options: CSV import or start fresh. Export your Jira issues as CSV, map columns to Work Item fields (Summary → Name, Description → Description, Story Points → Estimated Hours), and use Data Loader or Salesforce's built-in import wizard.

Honestly? Most teams choose to start fresh. Backlogs accumulate cruft. This is a good moment to ask: “Do we actually need these 400 tickets, or do we need the 30 that matter?”

Step 4: Set Up Your Team

Every team member who needs access gets a PortalAccess record linking their Salesforce User to their Network Entity (the “person” record in Delivery Hub). This controls what they see in the Client Portal, what notifications they receive, and what shows up on their personal board.

Turn on Slack notifications if your team uses Slack. Turn on email alerts if they don't. Both work out of the box with the managed package.

Step 5: Run Both Tools in Parallel (1 Week)

Don't cut Jira cold turkey. Run both tools for one sprint. Create new work in Delivery Hub. Reference old Jira tickets by link if needed. By the end of the week, your team will have naturally stopped opening Jira because everything they need is already in Salesforce.

Step 6: Cut Over

Export your Jira project as a ZIP archive (Project Settings → Export). Store it somewhere safe. Then disable user access to the Jira project, update any bookmarks or Slack shortcuts, and cancel the Jira subscription.

That's it. Six steps. One afternoon.
